The palm fiber (saaf) workshop, held throughout April, marked the beginning of the training cycle of the From & To People program, developed within the framework of Danseurs Citoyens Sud in Gabès.
This workshop introduced participants to a hands-on learning process that combined traditional knowledge transmission with creative experimentation. It offered an entry point into the material intelligence of palm fiber, a resource deeply rooted in the ecological and artisanal heritage of Southern Tunisia.
Throughout the sessions, participants engaged in learning the fundamental techniques of the craft, including sorting, splitting, and weaving palm fibers. Alongside technical practice, they explored how this natural material can be reinterpreted and adapted into contemporary creative forms, opening new possibilities for artistic and sustainable production.
Beyond the technical dimension, the workshop was marked by a strong collective dynamic. The learning environment encouraged exchange, mutual support, and shared problem-solving, reinforcing a sense of collaboration among participants. This collective energy not only enriched the learning process but also shaped the outcomes of the workshop itself.
As the first step in the training cycle, this experience set the tone for a practice rooted in cooperation, material awareness, and experimentation, laying the foundation for the next phases of the program.
