Mohamed Athmouni
Mohamed Athmouni is a multidisciplinary Tunisian artist, born in 2001 in Gafsa and currently based in Tunis. A dancer, circus artist, and actor, he has been developing a
hybrid artistic practice since 2017 that merges contemporary dance, physical theatre, and circus arts.
Trained in public spaces and shaped by the spontaneity of breakdance, his artistic journey is grounded in gesture transformation, bodily expressiveness, and storytelling through movement. His approach blends contemporary dance forms with acrobatics, improvisation, and a strong theatrical dimension.
Mohamed has collaborated with several key Tunisian artistic institutions, including:
· Centre Dramatique de Sfax, where he explored physical theatre,
· Joker Prod and Creatif Youth Association, contributing to regional social and cultural projects,
· Warcha Creative Collective, participating in residencies such as Open Mic and Canoë dans le ciel, which examine urban space and the body’s role in the city.
His choreographic work has been shaped and supported by renowned choreographers such as Khaled Bouzid, Kais Boulaares, and Wael Werghi, with whom he has co-created pieces exploring identity, memory, and stage presence.
Today, Mohamed continues to research and develop street-based theatrical dance at the crossroads of contemporary circus, acting, and open-space performance. His artistic universe is rooted in the urgency of gesture, the lived experience of the body, and the ongoing dialogue between art and society.
