Call for Trainers: Saaf Workshop

Call for Applications: Expert Trainer – Needle Felting Workshop

As part of the "From & To People" program, led by the organisation Danseurs Citoyens Sud (DCS), a series of specialized training cycles have been launched to support 30 young individuals (aged 18 to 35) from Gabès and the South-East of Tunisia. This initiative aims to enhance their socio-professional integration and strengthen their economic autonomy.

Following the initial wool transformation module, this new phase focuses deeply on exploring the Needle Felting (Feutrage à l'aiguille) technique. This traditional yet contemporary craft allows the conversion of raw wool fibers into solid shapes, artistic elements, and utilitarian design objects using specialized needles.

1. Mission Objectives

The primary goal is to provide participants with fundamental knowledge and practical execution skills in needle felting, from raw material handling to creating individual finished artisanal works, while encouraging artistic experimentation.

  • Understand the absolute principles and science of needle felting.
  • Master the dedicated tools, needle gauges, and safety protocols.
  • Develop precision in modeling 3D volumes, surface relief textures, and joint attachments.
  • Encourage personal creative expression and contemporary structural design.
  • Sensitize participants to the entrepreneurial and commercial valuation of fiber arts.

2. Target Audience & Target Logistics

  • Group Dynamics: 30 young creators (Ages 18–35) native to the Gabès and South Tunisia regions.
  • Animation Language: Tunisian Arabic (Arabe tunisien).
  • Raw Materials: High-grade felting wool, diverse needle sets, and support foam pads are entirely procured and provided on-site by DCS.

3. Technical Program Focus & Duration

The total timeline encompasses five (05) sessions of five hours each, running continuously from July 13 to July 17, 2026. The methodology must align with practical trainer demonstrations, individual step-by-step experimentation, and continuous personalized feedback loops.

  • Session Block 1: Introduction to needle physics, fiber properties, and tool anatomy.
  • Session Block 2: Basic shape construction, continuous compacting, and internal density management.
  • Session Block 3: Advanced geometric volumes, surface structuring, and blending raw colors.
  • Session Block 4: Component assembly, complex texturing, and structural detailing.
  • Session Block 5: Finishing touch-ups, surface consolidation, and economic viability evaluation.

4. Expected Deliverables & Profile

The selected expert trainer must submit: (1) A comprehensive pedagogical methodology note prior to launching the first session, and (2) A concise qualitative final report evaluating individual participant progression post-workshop.

Required Profile: Confirmed artistic or professional portfolio in needle felting or contemporary textile arts; proven instructional experience with youth groups; capability to run interactive animations completely in Tunisian Arabic.

Submission Guidelines & Requirements

Candidates must compile their application into one single PDF file containing strictly:

  1. Pedagogical Note: Detailed methodology, session schedule breakdown, and active animation techniques.
  2. Financial Offer: Global net breakdown pricing statement for the complete 5-session service.
  3. Creative Portfolio: Up-to-date background presentation along with high-quality visual examples of previous needle felting works.
  4. Administrative Mandatory: Clear and valid copy of the professional business patent (Patente).

Application Deadline: July 10, 2026 | Submission Channel: Exclusively uploaded via the DCS Platform
