Call for Trainers: "Saaf سعف" Workshop

As part of the "From & To People" project, Danseurs Citoyens Sud (DCS) is launching a training unit dedicated to Saaf (السعف). This workshop aims to reposition traditional palm-weaving as a modern intersection of art, nature, and sustainability for 30 young participants from Gabès and Southern Tunisia.

1. Mission Objectives

The selected trainer will guide participants in mastering the technical and ecological nuances of Saaf. Specific objectives include:

  • Teaching the technical stages of Saaf: Sorting (Al-Farz), Softening (Al-Qalban), Cleaning (Al-Tashleekh), Fiber Separation (Al-Tafarteek), and Weaving (Al-Dhafira).
  • Developing material manipulation skills and understanding ecological sustainability.
  • Encouraging experimentation and exchange around traditional palm-weaving techniques.

2. Workshop Details

  • Total Duration: 10 sessions (10 days).
  • Schedule: 3 sessions per week (Friday, Saturday, Sunday).
  • Start Date: From March 27, 28, and 29, 2026.
  • Target Audience: 30 participants (Aged 18-35) from Southern Tunisia.
  • Language of Instruction: Tunisian Arabic.

3. Key Techniques to be Covered

  • Sorting palm leaves (Al-Farz - الفرز)
  • Turning and softening (Al-Qalban - القلبان)
  • Cleaning and preparation (Al-Tashleekh - التشليخ)
  • Separation of fibers (Al-Tafarteek - التفرتيك)
  • Weaving (Al-Dhafira - الضفيرة)

4. Application Requirements

Interested trainers must submit a single PDF file including:

  • Methodological Note: Detailing the pedagogical approach and session organization.
  • Financial Offer: Global amount for the 10 sessions.
  • Portfolio: Trainer presentation and examples of Saaf-related work.
