Call for Trainers: "Smar السمار" Workshop

As part of the "From & To People" project, Danseurs Citoyens Sud (DCS) is launching a specialized training unit for Smar (السمار). This workshop focuses on traditional rush-weaving, integrating art, nature, and sustainability for 30 young participants.

1. Mission Objectives

  • Teaching the technical stages of Smar: Material preparation (Farz), Initial bases, the "Nashbika" technique (interlacing), and weaving on molds.
  • Mastering the manipulation of raw rush and its technical specificities.
  • Deepening the understanding of the ecological and cultural dimensions of Smar.

2. Workshop Details

  • Total Duration: 20 sessions (20 days).
  • Schedule: 3 sessions per week (Friday, Saturday, Sunday).
  • Start Date: April 24, 25, and 26, 2026.
  • Location: Gabès, Southern Tunisia.

3. Application Requirements

Submit a single PDF file containing:

  • Methodological Note: Detailing your pedagogical approach.
  • Financial Offer: Total fees for 20 sessions.
  • Portfolio: Examples of your work with Smar.
